About Call My Body a Cautionary Tale

Part magic, part real life, these stories feature unruly characters and the bodies they live in. Girls have third legs, a grieving couple gets a mail order ghost to haunt their house, a woman participates in a self-defense simulation, and more. CALL MY BODY A CAUTIONARY TALE weaves together eighteen urgent, darkly humorous stories in which characters attempt to have agency over their bodies, choices, and futures in an uncertain, often unsafe world. Stories in this book have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and featured in Best Small Fictions, and according to Kathy Fish (Wild Life: Collective Works), “while reminiscent of the work of Carmen Maria Machado, this collection comes to us from a writer of inimitable voice and vision.” This collection is part of Thirty West Publishing's 2026 Chapbook Project: Fall Cohort.
